About

“The New Adult” is a 6-part web series that follows Amber’s triumphs and failures as she tries to find her place in the world. Amber Jennings is a woman in her 30s who has been cruising through most of her life thanks to her spoiled upbringing. College educated and a bit of a lush, Amber is charmingly oblivious to the demands of the real world, has an inflated sense of entitlement, and is not afraid to speak her mind. Her core group of friends consist of Jamie, a former party girl-turned- housewife, and Fallon, a bartender who seemingly has his shit together. She also has a “frenemy,” Jade, who appears to be the more successful version of Amber - and a constant source of annoyance for our heroine.

Since its release, this single-camera series went on to be featured on Shadow and Act, Black Girl Nerds, and Bitch Flicks. It won the Jury Prize for the AAWIC Webisodes Challenge, was an official selection at Philly TV Festival and LA Webfest, and snagged a non-exclusive distribution deal with Kweli TV.

As a follow-up to the first season, we released Amber’s Video Diaries, a heavily improvised series of sketches that was posted on a fictional social media account, and eventually combined into a 4-part mini-season.

At its core, The New Adult is about self-identity and the pursuit of happiness. The show adds to the mosaic of the millennial Black woman while posing the question: What defines an adult? Whatever poor decisions Amber makes to get through the challenges ahead of her, it will at least be hilarious and painful to watch.
